Did you watch that presidential debate? I think this is one of the first official debates that Kamala Harris had with Donald Trump. Hater might argue that Trump won the debate by defaming Harris’s character while other suggest that Trump’s position highlight the urgency in protecting US border. In Biden’s presidency, Harris was appointed to target immigrants entering the border, regulating laws to prevent illegals for invading America. Instead of letting anyone walk into our country, we need to value law and exercise the right of citizenship because citizenship is hard to obtain in America. Why not make the process of obtain citizenship easier for immigrants?

Anyway ABC news released the first presidential debate on Tuesday, September 10th, 2024. This is a showdown that I was expecting from day one. Before I even watched the debate, a lot of friends and family members argued that the debate was quite “harsh”. Let’s take a further look into this debate and examine the answers from both candidates.

Economy

The first question stated that voters have a concern with the economy and the cost of living in America. The interviewee asked Harris if they were better off than they were 4 years ago. Harris stated that she intends to offer a tax cut of $6,000 to younger families (child tax credit). She wants to give a 50,000 tax deduction to start up small businesses because her mom was an entrepreneur. Harris claims that Trump will provide a tax cut for billionaires that will result in a 5 trillion dollars in America’s deficit. She also states that he’ll increase taxes to the middle class, working class by 20%. That’s a big claim to state. I’ll be transparent about my thoughts. To be honest, I don’t see how tax cuts contribute to the economy. In the simplest terms, I do know that if one demographic is targeted for an tax cut, isn’t all? Because tax is uniform or parallel throughout the economy. The more money you make, the more chance you’ll be hit with more taxes. I think Harris is saying this to defame Trump’s character by actually stating the obvious about how taxes work. Every day Americans are seeing this change in their paystubs. A coworker of mines (he’s an paramedic) shares that he has to cut his hours at work to avoid getting overcharged in taxes alone. Even picking up more hours at work is an threat to an regular American. If we’re going provide an tax cut, it should be uniform. PERIODT…

Trump responses to Harris’ statement is that he doesn’t even provide an sale tax in his position but are confident that foreign country will paid America back for all the funds we spent to aid our allies. He mentioned that word “Tariff”. Google defines “Tariff” as taxes that a country imposes on imported goods and services. I guess building our economy utilizing the trade market, that’s outsourcing our resources and vice versa. Trump explains that Tariff is going to decrease the percentage on inflation. Trump shared that the inflation rate has increase by 21% but in other areas, 70% or even 80% and with the addition of immigrants invading our country and taking jobs from marginalized groups and even unions. Harris shares that the connection Trump has with China is destructive to the American economy because he has shared exclusive information that she should be discussed with China even stated that they brought chips from America when Trump was in office.

Abortion

Trump argues that abortion policies has split our country for nearly 52 years. Killing Roe v. Wade and shifting that decision to the states allows Americans to exercise that right for themselves but their should be nuances to this directions. Legalized abortion should be limited to 6 week. Trump claims that the democratic party has allowed termination to exist way beyond the full term mark (9 months). Harris strongly believes that reproductive rights for women shouldn’t be unconstitutional. In fact, she argues that the woman’s right to keep a baby or not should not be an government decision to make. Personally I think abortion is an complex issue to discuss but shifting this decision to the states is that best thing we can do as a country, We are currently in an population decline at the moment. If we allow some women to misuse the system, America’s economy could suffer as an result. I mentioned how they are nuances to abortion. For instances, in cases of rape/incest, medical emergency, etc. the states should have the power to decide what’s legalized or not.

Immigrantion Policies

Harris was tasked by Biden to address illegal immigration at the border. According to House Committee on the Budget, over 1.7 million known gotaways, illegal immigrants who invaded our country. Biden administration waited six month prior to the election to address such issues via asylum restrictions and the numbers has dropped since then. The mediator asked why did the Biden Administration waited so long to address the issues and would Harris do anything different. Harris said that the congress created an border security bill that included 1500 more border agents to filter out illegals with drugs such as fentanyl. She claims that the bill will prosecute transnational criminal organization for trafficking gun, drugs and human beings. She mentioned that Trump makes immigration a run on a problem and prevent bills such as border security bill to tackle border crisis.

Trump briefly mentions that crisis happening in in Springfield, Ohio were humans are eating their pets (dogs and cats). The mediator clapback on these claims and stated that the city manager has no known record for people eating their pets. Trump said that people through social media and even on television are stating otherwise. Trump believes that under the Harris administration, America will be Venezuela on steroid. Honestly the issues happening in Springfield is news to me but I did see a video released from my favorite political commentator talking about this so that will be another blog for another day.

Trump talked about hosting the largest deportation in US history consisting of over 11 million people. The mediator asked how they will tackle this operation. The mediator mentioned in the past that he would utilize the US National Guard, US military, and even local police to access this operation even if it meant going door to door. Trump still to this day agrees with this notation. As harsh as this operation sounds, I think we should undergo what’s necessary to protect our country. With that being said, there are a lot of undocumented immigrants who invest their time and energy living in America and thus have made a good living for themselves. A lot of civil unrest could arise from this operation so Trump should prepare a plan that addresses citizenship for those who establish a career for themselves in America. Some issues could arise from this operation like inflation of broken families, an increase in protests, a decrease in employees, etc. I think this change could reset our economy though. The reset is actually what we need because we need to take care of our own country before lending a hand to other countries. I think we invest more money protecting our allies instead of addressing issues in our home.

Voting in America

Trump brings up an interesting point about the election. He feels as if the ballots have been very fraudulent. Democrats are allowing undocumented immigrants to vote who have no recognition of the candidate or can speak proper English. I heard about fraudulent voting on the Democratic side too. This might be a long shot but I read something about Democrats using decreased ballots on the voting poll. Citizens that who voted Democrat that are no longer alive. If this is indeed true, Harris administration should fight for a fair and just election in 2024 and eliminate any factors that could contribute to an faulty election.

Foreign Policies / Ally Conflict

There were a lot of things mentioned in this debate like the Hamas and Israeli war in the Gaza Strip. I don’t know much about this war but I discovered that they have 101 hostages in Gaza at the moment and 36 of them could be presumably dead. Whoever will become president must figure out how they will tackle this issue. I agree with Harris’ decision on the foreign policy. I think we should exercise a cease-fire treaty/deal and provide a two-state solution. A two state solution is the quickest way to end the war and provide territory to both parties. This solution give them the opportunity to rebuild Gaza and release the hostage safely.

It was a lot to unpack during this debate. When it comes to foreign policies, my answer will always remain the same. We should focus on the conflict that’s arise in our county but of course we should definite return the hostage back in US custody. Also avoid sending more troops in Gaza until the war is officially resolved.
